Wimax VS 3G. which is going to emerge?

The roll out of 3G is expected to shower in high speed data and advanced digital video streaming

With the Department of Telecommunications gearing up for simultaneous release of 3G and WiMax spectrum, analysts expect the two emerging wireless technologies to battle it out for supremacy.

WiMax or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access is a telecom technology that enables wireless transmission of data. The technology is available as IEEE 802.16D (fixed) and IEEE 802.16E (mobile). It offers downloads of up to 70 Mbps as compared to the 15 Mbps that 3G provides. Mobile WiMax offers download speeds of around 20 Mbps.

In India, companies like Tata Communications Internet Services, Intel, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications are the proponents of WiMax. Most of the companies have had beta-runs of the technology.

Robodog to be the latest war flick

Modern battlefields may soon resemble something out of a science fiction flick, thanks to advances in robotics. And, the latest weapon to be unveiled is the robodog -- four-legged, petrol-powered robots.
Scientists have developed the 'BigDog', billed as "the most advanced quadruped robot on Earth", which they claim is able to carry up to four packs of military equipment on awkward terrain unsuitable for vehicles.

According to the scientists, who have developed the robodog for the United States Army, the 11-stone machine can trot along at up to four miles per hour and would even stay on its legs when it is kicked hard in the side — but, sadly, no wagging tail.

In fact, its legs are designed to work in a similar way to a real dog’s, even storing energy in shock absorbers when a foot touches the ground.

The 14-million-pound BigDog project is currently being tested across a five-mile trail used to train the United States Marine Corps, carrying the soldiers’ equipment to prove that it can cope with holes, steep slopes and water hazards.

However, the scientists are also planning to use the technology for non-military purposes.

Large Hadron Collider will reveal the universe secrets :stephen hawkins

Prof Hawking said the £4.4bn machine, in which scientists are about to recreate conditions just after the Big Bang, is "vital if the human race is not to stultify and eventually die out."

And he sought to ease fears that the machine could have apocalyptic effects. "The world will not come to an end when the LHC turns on," Prof Hawking said, adding: "The LHC is absolutely safe."

Scientists at the CERN research centre in Switzerland are aiming to use the machine to gain a better understanding of the birth and structure of the universe, and to fill gaps in our knowledge of physics.

Scientists peel away the mystery behind gold's catalytic prowess

Gold particles measuring less than 5 nanometers in diameter possess a high level of catalytic activity when they are deposited on metal-oxide supports, Haruta learned. One nanometer (nm) is equal to one one-billionth of a meter, or about the width of five atoms.
In particular, Haruta found that gold nanoparticles are effective at catalyzing the critical conversion of toxic carbon monoxide (CO) into more benign carbon dioxide (CO2) at room temperature and even at temperatures as low as -76 degrees C. CO oxidation is vital to firefighters and others who must enter burning buildings, and it is also critical to the protection of hydrogen fuel cells from CO contamination.

In the two decades since Haruta's discovery, scientists have sought to determine exactly how gold nanoparticles function as catalysts.

Now, researchers from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and Cardiff University in the UK believe they have pinpointed the active species at which the critical oxidation reaction occurs when gold is supported on iron oxide.

Helium Ions Replace Electrons in Novel Microscope Technology

Researchers affiliated with the Institute for NanoBioTechnology hope to gain some insight into the potentially hazardous effects of inhaled nanometals by studying their ability to access lung tissues, their potential to trigger pro-inflammatory reactions by cells that line the lung airways, and even the extent to which workers are exposed in a nanomaterials manufacturing setting.

Latest global warming report urges world to begin adapting

Global warming is having a measurable effect on Earth's climate, including agriculture, freshwater resources, and plants and animals on both sea and land. These changes are expected to intensify as temperatures continue to rise.

Those are among the conclusions of a new report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a UN-sponsored group of scientists. A summary of their findings released April 6 outlines climate changes and how researchers expect them to play out as warming continues. Their impact on society, the IPCC report says, will vary depending on the amount of actual temperature increase that occurs and humanity's capacity or ability to adapt to the changes.

"Not all of these effects are negative," notes Sharon Hayes, an official with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, who headed the US delegation to the week-long meeting in Brussels where scientists and political delegations hammered out the summary's final wording. At least during the early part of the century, for example, crop yields in wetter parts of the mid- and high latitudes, including regions of Russia, Canada, and the US, are expected to rise.

But the report also makes clear that as temperatures rise, negative effects increase, Dr. Hayes adds. And the poorest countries, which contribute the least to global warming, are expected to face the biggest challenges in coping with it.

How To Enable Folder Options in Windows Explorer

Malware often drops itself as a hidden file and then disables the Folder Options menu in Windows Explorer so you can't change the settings to view hidden files and folders. If you are unable to access the Tools | Folder Options in Windows Explorer, here's how to modify the registry to regain access to the Folder Options menu.

STEPS:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type REGEDIT
  4. Click OK
The Registry Editor will now open
  5. Browse to the following key:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
    Note: HKCU stands for HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  6. In the right pane, look for the value: NoFolderOptions
  7. Right click NoFolderOptions and select Delete. (When prompted with "Are you sure you want to delete this value", select Yes.
  8. Now browse to the following key:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
    Note: HKLM stands for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  9. In the right pane, look for the value: NoFolderOptions
  10. Right click NoFolderOptions and select Delete. (When prompted with "Are you sure you want to delete this value", select Yes.
  11. Close the Registry by choosing File | Exit
  12. You should now be able to access the Folder Options menu. If not, reboot into Safe Mode and repeat the steps outlined above.

How to remove new folder exe or regsvr exe or autorun inf virus

I want to tell you a story, two days back i got affected by this virus very badly as it eat up all my empty hard disk space of around 700 MB :( .

I was surprised that my most reliable friend Avast, for the first time failed me in this war against viruses but then again avg and bitdiffender also failed against it. This virus is know popularly as regsvr.exe virus, or as new folder.exe virus and most people identify this one by seeing autorun.inf file on their pen drives, But trend micro identified it as WORM_DELF.FKZ. It is spreading mostly using pen drives as the medium.

New folder.exe virus

Well, so here is the story of how i was able to kill the monster and reclaim my hard disk space.

Manual Process of removal

I prefer manual process simply because it gives me option to learn new things in the process.

So let’s start the process off reclaiming the turf that virus took over from us.

  1. Cut The Supply Line
    1. Search for autorun.inf file. It is a read only file so you will have to change it to normal by right clicking the file , selecting the properties and un-check the read only option
    2. Open the file in notepad and delete everything and save the file.
    3. Now change the file status back to read only mode so that the virus could not get access again.
    4. Autorun INF: cutting the supply line
    5. Click start->run and type msconfig and click ok
    6. Go to startup tab look for regsvr and uncheck the option click OK.
    7. Click on Exit without Restart, cause there are still few things we need to do before we can restart the PC.
    8. Now go to control panel -> scheduled tasks, and delete the At1 task listed their.
  2. Open The Gates Of Castle
    1. Click on start -> run and type gpedit.msc and click Ok.
    2. Opening the gate of castle: starting the gepedit or msconfig
    3. If you are Windows XP Home Edition user you might not have gpedit.msc in that case download and install it from Windows XP Home Edition: gpedit.msc and then follow these steps.
    4. Go to users configuration->Administrative templates->system
    5. Find “prevent access to registry editing tools” and change the option to disable.
    6. Opening the gate of castle: Group Edit Policies
    7. Once you do this you have registry access back.
  3. Launch The Attack At Heart Of Castle
    1. Click on start->run and type regedit and click ok
    2. Go to edit->find and start the search for regsvr.exe,
    3. Launch the attack in the heart of castle: registry search
    4. Delete all the occurrence of regsvr.exe; remember to take a backup before deleting. KEEP IN MIND regsvr32.exe is not to be deleted. Delete regsvr.exe occurrences only.
    5. At one ore two places you will find it after explorer.exe in theses cases only delete the regsvr.exe part and not the whole part. E.g. Shell = “Explorer.exe regsvr.exe” the just delete the regsvr.exe and leave the explorer.exe
  4. Seek And Destroy the enemy soldiers, no one should be left behind
    1. Click on start->search->for files and folders.
    2. Their click all files and folders
    3. Type “*.exe” as filename to search for
    4. Click on ‘when was it modified ‘ option and select the specify date option
    5. Type from date as 1/31/2008 and also type To date as 1/31/2008
    6. Seek and destory enemy soldiers: the search option
    7. Now hit search and wait for all the exe’s to show up.
    8. Once search is over select all the exe files and shift+delete the files, caution must be taken so that you don’t delete the legitimate exe file that you have installed on 31st January.
    9. Also selecting lot of files together might make your computer unresponsive so delete them in small bunches.
    10. Also find and delete regsvr.exe, svchost .exe( notice an extra space between the svchost and .exe)
  5. Time For Celebrations
    1. Now do a cold reboot (ie press the reboot button instead) and you are done.

I hope this information helps you win your own battle against this virus. Soon all antivirus programs will be able to automatically detect and clean this virus. Also i hope Avast finds a way to solve this issues.

As a side note i have found a little back dog( winpatrol ) that used to work perfectly on my old system. It was not their in my new PC, I have installed it again , as I want to stay ahead by forever closing the supply line of these virus. You can download it form Winpatrol website.

Therefore, to reduce the number of on-the-job accidents at Alta and thereby increase productivity, we should shorten each of our three work shifts by one hour so that our employees will get adequate amounts of sleep."

Phelps resembles dolphin

Michael Phelps uses the kick to its maximum advantage by staying underwater for at least 13 meters.

Michael Phelps swam his way into history at Beijing but just how did he do it?

An Indian-American scientist is trying to explain what makes Phelps the best in the world by comparing his style to that of the of ultimate swimmers - Dolphins.

Rajat Mittal's investigation into the swimming technique of 50 Olympic-level American swimmers began 5-years ago. Mittal found that among the group Michael Phelps was able to use his body, especially his feet to kick like a dolphin at the start of the races and every turn that Dolphin kick, Mittal says makes Phelps the greatest.

"It's been noted by us and lot of analysts that looked at the Beijing Olympics, in many of the races Phelps went into the first turn not in the lead but when he came out of the first turn doing the Dolphin kick he was almost always either in the lead or he had gained the lead. He had gone from 7th to 2nd place, said Mittal, who is a mechanical and aerospace engineering professor in George Washington University.

Mittal also found that Phelps body dynamics gives him an extra advantage. Mittal says that Phelps with a longer torso and shorter legs is able to create smooth wave-like motion throughout his body and increase speed just like a Dolphin's movement. But the ultimate advntage is the 23-year-old's massive size-14 feet.

"The 14-size foot is the ultimate paddle. Swimmers that wear flippers can beat the ones without flippers. Michael comes with natural flipper, that is gives him tremendous advantage in creating propulsion," said Mittal.

Research also shows that Phelps uses the kick to its maximum advantage by staying underwater for at least 13 meters, while others swimmers surface by the 7th or 10th meter mark. Phelps powerful lungs hold out longer under water, eliminating the resistance that would result if he surfaced early.

"He can actually swim nicely for 15 meters without running out of breath. Because the last thing you want to do is you swim for 15 meters and then when you come out you're so depleted of oxygen that you're not able to swim at all and that would defeat the purpose of the Dolphin kick," added Mittal.

Rajat Mittal who is now working with US Olympic coaches hopes that the Dolphin kick will become an essential part of the athletes' training program.

Google's new browser chrome

Google has revealed plans today to release an innovative new open source web browser called Chrome that includes some extraordinary and unprecedented features. Google says that its new browser will move the web forward and provide a stronger platform for emerging web standards.

The browser is built on top of Apple's WebKit HTML rendering engine, a lightweight renderer that is known for its clean code base, good performance, and excellent standards-compliance. WebKit's versatility and the ease with which it can be embedded in applications has led to its adoption in numerous contexts, including Google's Android web browser. Alongside WebKit, Google will be using its own JavaScript virtual machine called V8, which was designed for high performance and has some compelling features.

Security is also clearly an area where Google plans to push forward web innovation. Chrome has a sophisticated sandboxing system that is designed to protect against malware by restricting access to the underlying system functionality. Google will also be leveraging its malware blacklists (the same ones it uses to protect users from clicking through harmful search results) to warn users when they attempt to visit a site that is known to be infected.

There are many other nice features in Chrome too, including a rich autocompletion, tightly integrated Google Gears, a site-specific browser framework like Prism, and a private browsing function called Incognito that resembles Microsoft's recently announced InPrivate functionality.
