The  Australian Open tennis tournament 2010, the first of the world’s top four Grand Slam has begun at the Melbourne Park from January 18, 2010.

This is the 98th edition of the Australian Open and will take place  from January 18 to January 31, 2010 in Australia.

The four Grand Slam tournaments are the Australian Open, French Open at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams are the defending champions for mens and womens respectively.

The Australian Open and Wimbledon are the only tennis Tournaments  which are played  indoor.

The Australian Open usually  has very high attendance, the 2009 tournament achieved the highest ever single day attendance record for any Grand Slam  of 66,018.

The event is said to be worth around £38 million to the Australian economy.

The winner will get more than A$2,000,000

Australian Open 2010 - Round one results updates

Australian Opne 2010 round 1 result: Roger Federer beat Igor Andreev in four sets 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.

 Sania Mirza out of the tournament.
 Andy Murray advances to the 2nd round.
Sania Mirza, India's sensation crashed out of the Australian Open today, January 19. She was beaten in the first round of the women's singles by 27th seed Aravani Rezai.
Andy Murray beat Kevin Anderson in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.
 
Roger Federer beat Igor Andreev in four sets 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 to move on to the second round of the Australian Open 2010.
 
Kim Clijsters beat Canadian qualifier Valerie Tetreault 6-0, 6-4
Dinara Safina won 6-4 6-4 over Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia.

Australian Open 2010: Thoughts on Andy Murray vs. John Isner

Earlier today we reported that Andy Murray had successfully made it through to round 4 of the Australian Open 2010, we are now hearing that Murray is pretty weary of his next opponent.
His next match is against the American John Isner, Isner is known for his very big serve, however Murray must remain confident as he has not yet dropped a set in his three matches of this tournament so far.
Murray has reason to be wary of Isner as last week Isner beat Andy Roddick at the Heineken Open in Auckland, however his latest appearance against GaĆ«l Monfils was a struggle, the final score was 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. For more information check out Telegraph.co.uk.

Australian Open 2010 Rafael Nadal reaches fourth round


Defending champion Rafael Nadal reached the fourth round of the Australian Open 2010 on Friday - but was made to work hard for his victory
Nadal struggled with his first serve at times, especially in the third set, and found Kohlschreiber's heavy hitting hard to deal with throughout the match.

Nadal eventually won 6-4 6-2 2-6 7-5 in three hours and 39 minutes to set up a fourth round tie against Ivo Karlovic of Croatia.
