iPad 3G release date & HP Slate release date

New York: iPad 3G release date & HP Slate release date: features and performance to differ a lot. Computer giant Apple Inc has won its first battle. Its launch of the most-talked about gadget iPad has been a huge hit. On the very first day of it debut it sold 300, 000 units in the US only.
It is a feat. Apple has broken its own previous record. In its short history it has never sold such a large number of gadgets on one day. The sales of the iPad will certainly touch record numbers in the coming weeks and months. Since the company unveiled its gadget in mid-January it grabbed headlines. It received raving reviews in the press.

Gadget mavens were desperately waiting for the day when they could lay their hands on the gadget. The way it is doing roaring business it looks that it will rule the roost.

HP Slate to cost $549, have 1.6GHz Atom Z530, 5 hour battery

We just got our hands on what looks like an internal HP Slate presentation given to cool down some of the iPad hype amongst HP employees, and it just happens to have specs and pricing details on the elusive Windows 7 tablet. As we'd heard, the Slate will run $549 in its base configuration, which has a 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive multitouch display, a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor with UMA graphics and an accelerator for 1080p video playback (we're assuming it's a Broadcom Crystal HD chip), 32GB of flash storage and 1GB of non-upgradeable RAM. There's also a $599 version with 64GB of storage, and both models will have a five-hour battery, an SDHC slot, two camera, a USB port, a SIM card slot for the optional 3G modem, and a dock connector for power, audio, and HDMI out. Of course, what this spec list doesn't cover is software, and we still haven't seen much of how HP plans to make Windows 7 on a full slate device with netbook-class internals perform as smoothly or as intuitively as its demo videos. That's not a small challenge, especially since the iPad is out now and setting some pretty high expectations for how this new breed of tablets should work. We've got our fingers crossed -- show us something good, HP.

HP Slate Details Leaked: $550 Netbook, Minus Keyboard

http://itmania.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/hp-slate.jpg
An internal HP memo which compares the upcoming Slate to Apple’s iPad has been leaked, and it shows not just the specifications of the Hewlett Packard tablet, but also the price. The comparison table even highlights “advantages” and “threats” in green and red.
The Slate will come in two sizes: a 32-GB model for $550 and a $600, 64-GB version. This compares favorably to the iPad, which costs $600 for 32 GB. On the “advantages” side, the HP lists an SD card reader, a USB port, HDMI-out, a VGA webcam, a 3-megapixel camera and a “conventional” SIM-card tray (the iPad uses the new micro-SIM).
Inexplicably, the 1.6-GHz Atom Z530 is also counted as an “advantage,” presumably due to the familiarity of the name rather than its actual performance. The Slate will also contain 1 GB RAM, weigh the same 1.5 pounds as the iPad and sport a widescreen 1024 x 600 display. This is, despite the name and capacitive touchscreen, a netbook with the keyboard removed.
