New York (AFP) - U.S. auto giant Ford Motor, said Thursday that plans to export the model Figo made in India to 50 new destinations for Indian exports will become central. Ford also said, aims to introduce eight new vehicles for the Indian automobile market is growing rapidly as the effort to pursue its global rivals in the market through third largest Asian automobile.
"We have big plans for India and for this region," Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of Asia Pacific and Africa, in a speech in New Delhi. "In the middle of this decade, we will introduce eight new vehicles to India from our global platform, in an appropriate segment for this market," he said.

Ford's announcement came after the U.S. automaker earlier this year launched in India Figo small model made locally to compete with offerings from international competitors such as General Motors and Volkswagen.  Figo, produced in the southern Indian city of Chennai, has become very popular, with more than 30,000 sold in 25 weeks.
Sales of vehicles in India has grown at an average annual rate of 17 percent over the last five years, and an estimated 10-11 million people will migrate from bicycles and motorcycles into a small car in the next few years. Hinrichs said the company would export Figo for 50 new countries, including Mexico, and in North Africa and the Middle East starting next year.
