The Samsung Galaxy S3 And The New Nokia Lumia 900 – Design And Screen Quality Compared
This year we expect to see the Windows Mobile operating system challenge the Android platform more than ever before thanks to some excellent software improvements. The Nokia Lumia 900 is regarded by many as the leading Windows device on the market thanks to some excellent styling and superb specification. We compare this handset to the Samsung Galaxy S3, the brand new Android phone that replaces the best selling Galaxy S2. We take a look at styling and screen quality on both of the devices.
The Nokia Lumia 900 is one of the most eye catching devices currently available and therefore it easily outshines the Galaxy S3 for design. The model is similar in looks to the other Lumia handsets that are available although the materials used on this handset do feel more premium than on its sibling models. Rather than adopt the curved chassis used by many modern phones the Lumia 900 sports a much more angular design. The main body is made from a high quality polycarbonate material and its constructed from a single piece of this material which helps to make the phone feel very robust. In terms of dimensions the phone measures 127.8 x 68.5 x 11.5mm and weighs 160 grammes. The Samsung Galaxy S3 boast some super specification but unfortunately the design of the model is not quite as impressive. We would have liked to see the model sport similar styling to the very modern looking Galaxy S2 but Samsung have opted to use a more pebble like design that is similar to numerous other handsets. In a bid to keep the weight of the handset down to a minimum the phone uses a very lightweight plastic material. Although this enables the device to weigh just 133 grammes the material does not feel very robust in your hand which is a shame from a flagship model. Considering that this model sports a 4.7 inch display the physical dimensions are very good. The model has an incredible depth of just 8.6mm which makes it one of the slimmest devices on the market. In terms of styling the Lumia 900 easily eclipses its rivals thanks to great build quality and a modern design.
One area where the Samsung Galaxy S3 does gain the upper hand on its rival is for screen technology. The model features a large 4.7 inch screen which makes use of AMOLED technology to produce excellent image quality and good levels of brightness. The model is capable of displaying a resolution of 1280 x 720 which means that a superb pixel density of 306PPI is offered. The Nokia Lumia 900 uses a much smaller 4.3 inch screen which also makes use of AMOLED technology. The resolution displayed by this model is much lower than the Samsung at 800 x 480 pixels. This is still a very high standard and material does still look very impressive but the pixel density drops to just 217PPI. When you look at the two screens side by side there is more detail on the Samsung model while the viewing angles are also better.
The Nokia Lumia 900 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 are two of the leading handsets on their respective operating systems. The Lumia device boasts superior build quality and a more striking design but the Samsung handset does offer a larger and more impressive display perfect for web browsing and playback of multi media files.
